Today saw the start of 992 Troops Adventure Training Package. The Recruits from the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines will be taking part in a number of activities with us this week from Coasteering to Sea Kayaking.
Adventure Training within the Military is seen as good way to develop leadership, teamwork, physical fitness, moral and physical courage, among other personal attributes and skills vital to operational capability.
It is also seen by the RM Recruits as a good week to let their hair down and have a bit of fun during the thirty-two weeks of intensive training to become a Royal Marines Commando.
Today I was out with one of the groups Coasteering, taking a chance to get out in the November sun and surprisingly the water was still warm for this time of the year. We spent around 4 Hour exploring the coastline and jumping from ever increasing heights, with some of the Recruits having to summon up some of that physical courage that the Royal Marines are looking for when it came to the 40 foot jump at the end.
The other two groups have been out Sea kayaking and Rock Climbing on the Indoor wall at CTCRM (Commando Training Centre Royal Marines). Tomorrow the groups will swap over and hopefully the good weather will stay with us for another day.
