It was good to see a great turn out and everyone is already looking forward to the session. 992 Troops Adventure Training Package

Today saw the start of 992 Troops Adventure Training Package. The Recruits from the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines will be taking part in a number of activities with us this week from Coasteering to Sea Kayaking.

Adventure Training within the Military is seen as good way to develop leadership, teamwork, physical fitness, moral and physical courage, among other personal attributes and skills vital to operational capability.

It is also seen by the RM Recruits as a good week to let their hair down and have a bit of fun during the thirty-two weeks of intensive training to become a Royal Marines Commando.

Today I was out with one of the groups Coasteering, taking a chance to get out in the November sun and surprisingly the water was still warm for this time of the year. We spent around 4 Hour exploring the coastline and jumping from ever increasing heights, with some of the Recruits having to summon up some of that physical courage that the Royal Marines are looking for when it came to the 40 foot jump at the end.

The other two groups have been out Sea kayaking and Rock Climbing on the Indoor wall at CTCRM (Commando Training Centre Royal Marines). Tomorrow the groups will swap over and hopefully the good weather will stay with us for another day.

Dart Loop

After all the rain over the past few days the Outlook Adventure team jumped at the chance to get out on the river, it also gave Neil a chance to try out his new Big Dog Kayak.

We meet up at Newbridge and got kitted up with the other 100 or so paddlers taking the opportunity to get out on the river. Once on the river we got straight on with it so that we could get away from all the big college and Uni Groups and headed off downstream. We had a few swimmers on the Washing Machine, once they were back in their boats we had time to have a play before we were caught up by the groups. Heading of down the river gave some of the guy’s time to practise their skills breaking in and out of eddies and with some more swimmers it also gave us another chance to carry out some rescues and throw line practise.

All in all it was a great day out on the river and we are already looking to get back out on the river next week maybe on the upper Dart to get away from the crowds.

Outlook adventure will also be running a number of BCU 3* courses over the winter check out the website for dates www.outlookadventure.co.uk
